Tonic Moment: Lucky
Mixed-media drawing, 24.5 x 19.5 cm, 2002
Postmodern funk art: Lucky projects sobered exhilaration; all the room is at the top. In Manufacturing Consent, Noam Chomsky pointed out that our democratic freedom necessitates the acceptance of views that may contradict our own. As a conglomerate of diverse communities tightly woven together within a seven-by-seven stretch of land, San Francisco exemplifies a philosophy of emancipatory tolerance which occasions me to feel lucky as one of its many resident artists. Young "Lucky" went West to pursue art. And throughout three decades, San Francisco's vibrant multiculturalism and stupendous landscape have nurtured my growth. The small funk work of art above projects thoughtful ambivalence; it served as the study for Lucky, the postmodern self-portrait home-page feature.
